Portland OR Transmissions

Growing up I remember my mother always wanted my father’s next car to be an automatic. She said everyone has one now. He however, said he only wanted a stick shift because he felt he had more control.

Here are a few facts about Portland OR Transmissions and Automatic Transmissions:

1. These types of vehicles are easier to drive. The alternative of course is a stick shift.

2. Whenever you drive a car that has an automatic transmission, you will feel more comfortable.

3. Some automobiles that have this type of transmission actually have a tow / haul system that can be quite valuable in times of need.

4. Automatic transmissions use somewhat more fuel than a stick.

5. Gears are automatically changed and you don’t have to listen for the engine to reve up before you drive.

6. As technology continually develops, more speeds are being added.

I personally learned how to drive a stick shift. My father was a bus driver and he wanted me to make sure I knew how to drive a stick. Maybe, just in case I ever needed to drive a bus I guess! They are automatic now too anyway. Well, I’m glad I learned on a stick. I remember practicing many times stopping on a hill and trying to balance the break and the clutch just right to make a smooth start. Owning an automatic now, I sure don’t miss that clutch at all though.

If you live in Wrightsville and have any questions about automatic transmissions, talk with a dealership in your area for professional advice.

The Keys for a Longer Lasting Transmission

Proper maintenance and skilled transmission diagnostics are what will keep your transmission running longer. Most cars have a “check engine” light if something isn’t right. However regular preventive maintenance will reduce your chances of transmission failure.

No matter what vehicle you drive car, truck, SUV or van the problems most common with automatic transmissions are overload, heat, to many miles combined with a lack of preventative maintenance. True computers in today’s engines control the automatic transmission. Here in Gresham and Troutdale our cold winters and hot summers can effect the transmission of your vehicle.  Bringing your car in twice a year will help to insure that it will run smoothly all year long.
